Joseph "Sanish" Pallipurath, An Indian Immigrant, Drives Across America To Kill Wife Reshma James

Pallipurath is said to have drove across the country from California to New Jersey. Two other victims in the shooting are said to be in critical condition and are being treated at the St. Joseph’s Medical Center in Clifton, NJ. The incident occurred at the St Thomas Syrian Orthodox Knanaya Church in Clifton.

The couple had married in Kerala, India and then moved to California some years ago. Reshma James moved to New Jersey to escape from her husband, who is said to have been abusive towards her since the day they got married. Afraid that her husband would try to hurt her, Reshma James obtained a restraining order against Pallipurath. None of this deterred Pallipurath, who in a fit of rage confronted his wife inside the church and shot her.

The Clifton police are on the lookout for Joseph Pallipurath and according to, “he escaped in a 1994 green, soft-topped Jeep with California license plate No. 5JHD200. He is believed to still have the silver handgun he used in the shooting and is considered dangerous”

* UPDATE 1 – A second victim identified as 23-year-old John Dennis Mallosseril has died. Silvy Perincheril has been identified as the third victim and is 47 years old. Perincheril continues to be in critical condition and was Reshma James’ cousin.

* UPDATE 2 – New York Times is reporting that Joseph Sanish Pallipurath has been captured near Atlanta.
