Shashank Pulluru, Indian Student From Andhra Pradesh, Shot Outside Middle Tennessee State University (MTSE) Campus

shashank_pulluru_shot_outside_MTSE_campus_tennessee In what will be the seventh such violent incident targeting Indian students, Shashank Pulluru, a MBA student at the Middle Tennessee State University was shot outside his apartment complex. Shashank Pulluru is a student from Andhra Pradesh and stays just outside the MTSE campus in Murfreesboro, Tennessee.

Pulluru is currently listed as being in critical but stable condition. He was shot in the chest and surgery was performed on his chest to remove the bullet. The police department of Murfreesboro is investigating into this shooting incident and according to updates provided, there are no witnesses to this incident.

According to a news update:

While the investigation to nab the assailant is on, the police said at this point of time there was no suspect. “We are looking into various possibilities.”

Pulluru hails from Hanamkonda town of Warangal district of Andhra Pradesh. He came to the US last year to pursue MS. His father P Sudhakar works as registrar in the cooperative department while mother Arundhati is a teacher.

His family said he was shot by some African Americans when he and two of his friends returned to their apartment after the classes.

According to his uncle P Ashok, the family received a phone call early Sunday from one of Pulluru’s friends that he was injured when some Africans opened fire at him.

This incident follows a recent string of incidents where Indian students have been targeted in unrelated incidents. Vikram Kumar Tummala and Soumya Tummala Reddy, both students of SIUC, were recently found dead. Three other Indian students were murdered on US university campuses in the first few months of this year. Akkaldevi Srinivas, who was a doctor from Andhra Pradesh, was found dead in a pool of blood in Pennsylvania. Prior to that, two PhD doctoral students Chandrasekhar Reddy Komma and Kiran Kumar Allam, were found shot dead in their apartment at the Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge.
