The city of Philadelphia will honor its victorious Phillies team with a parade on Friday. Mayor Michael Nutter was ecstatic after watching the Phillies clinch the world series title after a big gap of 25 years. More details about the parade will be made public in a news conference on Thursday at the Citizens Bank Park. The Phillies victory parade will start at the intersection of 20th and Market Street at noon on Friday, October 31 2008. It will then move towards South Broad Street and culminate at the sports complex.
The parade will originate at noon at 20th and Market Streets and travel south down Broad Street, ending at the sports complex. I think this will be the route that may be taken, but watch out for the news conference on Thursday as they might have a different route than the one show below. If you have any more information about the route at this point, please let us know in the comments section :
“Phillies fans have been waiting 28 years for this day,” Nutter said in a statement issued following Wednesday’s Game 5 clincher. “We deserve this win. I can’t wait to share this day with Phillies fans from across the city, state, and even country.” [Via : MLB.com]
Update : The Philadelphia Inquirer has an update on the Phills Parade :
“The parade will begin at noon at 20th and Market Streets, then head down Broad Street for two mid-afternoon rallies: a main one at Citizens Bank Park and another at Lincoln Financial Field.
Basically, those at the Linc will see a broadcast of the parade and the Bank ceremonies, plus brief appearances by Phillies players.
Gates will open at 10 a.m. at both facilities.
Complimentary tickets for the stadium events became available starting at 3 this afternoon.
Here’s a link to try to get the tickets: http://philadelphia.phillies.mlb.com/phi/ticketing/postseason_info.jsp.
Trying for Lincoln Financial Field tickets was the better shot, because it holds more fans and Phillies season tickets holders had first crack at seats at Citizens Bank Park.”
