The last Titanic survivor, Millvina Dean, is selling personal items and momentoes of the Titanic obtained by her family, which was on the doomed ship. Millvina Dean was a two month infant when the Titanic drowned in the Atlantic. She is now 96 years old and lives in a nursing home. With no money to pay for her nursing home care, Millvina Dean, has now decided to auction her famed possessions.
Millvina’s family was on the ship after the family decided to emigrate to the United States and live in Kansas. But tragedy struck even before they reach American soil. Millvina along with her brother and mother (Eva Dean) was put in a lifeboat. Her father, Bertram Dean, did not make it and drowned with the ship. The family was travelling third class on the Titanic.
The auction is expected to fetch her 3000 British Pounds which is about $5150 in US dollars. Among the items that will be sold are a 100 year old suitcase and rare prints of the Titanic. The old suitcase was given to her family after they were rescued. It is said to have contained clothes for the family, which lost everything including their breadwinner with the ship. The rare prints of the Titanic were sent to her mother from the Titanic Relief fund and is said to have been signed by a number of popular artists of that time.

I think that she should know more about the titanic sence she was in that ship for a long time. She should be more specific and tell a whole lot of stories about that ship. I am also a survivor from the modern aleths ship. The ship sank ten years ago when I was ten years old. I have a whole story at http://www.alegths.com. My family sank and it was a big ship also that crashed into a rock at the red sea. This story is also a specific story told by me… Elen Taughtfoul. PLease check the website for my whole breive story which was whole told by me. I know how it feels after survivng a very big ship.
I don’t think that she is going to remember much about the Titanic as she was only 2 months old when it sank, she can only go on what her mother told her.
In a recent auction by Milvina Dean, she was only able to get $8000 for the last few remaining pieces of memorabilia that she possesses. A man who is said to have bought a canvas bag in the auction returned the bag back to Dean. Go to this CNN article for full details on this recent auction.
I know Ms. Dean wasn’t old enough to remember, however, what a tragic moment for her entire family! One might think, oh well she could never remember anything, though she probably remembers the impact it made on her family, especially her mother that had to raise children back then without a husbands support. The stories that were told with the memorillbillas of her that her mother was able to take with her. Her last memories of the tragic moment and the lose of her loved ones and friends. I believe that Ms. Dean remembers alot. I believe this tragic moment in her life at only 9 weeks has been haunted her all of her life. To auction off the only memories that would connect her with her father and mother had to be painful, to know that these items to her were priceless; Just so she could stay at a Nursing home she felt comfortable with. Nursing homes are not my first choice to stay in when I grow old. All of her family has died, she deserves to be in a home she is comfortable with. The state will take over and send her, who know where? A place she can finally die at, because that is what it will do to her. It is amazing that there is even one last survior from the Titanic. I hope she lives on and people continue to help her funds so she can live her life to the fullest.
