Sarah Palin – Joe Biden Vice Presidential Debate At Washington University Will Be The First Real Test For Sarah Palin

by Trendy

The first and only Vice Presidential debate between the Republican and Democratic Vice Presidential nominees, Sarah Palin and Joe Biden, will take place at the Washington University, St.Louis on October 2 2008. After the first presidential debate between Barack Obama and John McCain, the eyes of the entire country will be on their running mates. On paper a debate between Sarah Palin and Joe Biden looks like a match up between David and Goliath. Joe Biden is a veteran of Washington politics and Sarah Palin is only a first term Alaska governor. The experience difference between both the Vice Presidential candidates is huge but Sarah Palin has hogged the limelight since she was introduced to the world by McCain as his running mate. Biden, meanwhile has been campaigning around the country but is not in the news as much as Palin is.

Sarah Palin has only given a couple of interviews after being chosen as McCain’s running mate. In her first interview with Charlie Gibson of ABC News, Palin was clueless when asked about her thoughts on the Bush doctrine. In her second interview with Katie Couric of CBS News, her answers about her foreign policy credentials did not make any sense at all. Sarah Palin has often said that Alaska’s proximity to Russia and its land borders with Canada have strengthened her foreign policy credentials and the experience has provided her with enough to represent America on the global stage. When asked to explain what she really means, she said – “our next-door neighbors are foreign countries, there in the state that I am the executive of.” As Putin rears his head and comes into the air space of the United States of America, where do they go? It’s Alaska”. Yeah, that’s what she said. Go figure what that means and what it has to do with the question that was asked. Katie Couric also asked Palin to cite specific examples to prove that McCain has led in bringing more regulation and oversight of the finance industry. Palin had no clue and said – “I’ll try to find you some and I’ll bring ‘em to ya,”. I could not believe she actually said that on an interview meant for prime time television. Here is a video of that interview :

Joe Biden is a veteran of Washington politics and is widely recognized for his oratory skills. He is the favorite to win the Vice Presidential debate. Biden has been in the U.S Senate for 36 years since 1972. He was first elected to the Senate at a young age of 29.

McCain’s campaign folks are probably spending all their time on getting Palin ready for the debate. She definitely needs to spend time and study McCain’s voting record. Being clueless about the economy and foreign policy issues facing America will only make her look more foolish to the American people after her recent disastrous interviews with ABC and CBS. A good performance will keep her in the spotlight and help McCain’s numbers in the polls while a bad performance will only enhance the downward slide of McCain in poll numbers.

The Vice Presidential Debate Will take place at the Washington University in St.Louis and start at 9 PM ET On October 2 2008. The debate will be moderated by Gwen Ifill, who is the managing editor of PBS’ “Washington Week” and senior correspondent for “The NewsHour with Jim Lehrer”. All Presidential and Vice Presidential debates are conducted by the Commission on Presidential Debates.
