Rain Halts Andy Murray’s March To US Open Tennis Finals, Roger Federer Advances To Fifth Staight US Open Final

by Trendy on September 6, 2008

Andy Murray was leading 6-2,7-6,2-3 over Wimbledon and French Open Champion Rafael Nadal before the skies opened up over Flushing Meadows to give Rafael Nadal a breather. The rest of the game was cancelled and has been scheduled to resume at 4 PM ET on Sunday, Sep 7 2008. The young british man was playing extremely positively and was probably playing the best tennis of his life.

Earlier in another semi-final match, Roger Federer reigned over Novak Djokovic and won the game 6-3, 5-7, 7-5, 6-2. Federer has already lost the Wimbledon and French Open finals to Rafael Nadal and even though he did not say this during his post-match interview with Mary Joe Fernandez, he is probably hoping to see Andy Murray in The Finals. Federer, in the interview, said that he has no preferences on who he would want to play in the finals and that his only preference would be to win the trophy.

Another game that was rescheduled to be played on Sunday was the US Open Women’s final match up between Serena Williams and Jelena Jankovic. Serena Williams had beaten Dinara Safina 6-3, 6-2 in straight sets on friday. Jelena Jankovic won her semi-final game against Elena Dementieva of Russia 6-4, 6-4. The US Open Women’s final will not only give the winner the US Open trophy but also the number 1 ranking in women’s tennis. The Serena Williams - Jelena Jankovic Finals game is scheduled to start at 9 PM Eastern Time on Sunday, Sep 7 2008.
