Miss Minnesota 2008, Angela McDermott, will perform the USA National Anthem at the opening session of the National Republican Convention in Saint Paul, Minnesota. The Republican convention starts on September 1 2008 at the Excel Energy Center in Saint Paul.

Angie McDermott won the Miss Minnesota Pageant in June 2008 and will now compete for the Miss America title in January 2008 at Las Vegas.

A 2007 graduate of the University of Minnesota - Duluth campus, Angie received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Communication, with a Minor in International Studies. Her career goal/ambition is to work in public relations/event planning in the sports or music industry.

Angie grew up in Austin, Minnesota and is a 2002 graduate of Austin High School, where she was president of the Austin High School Student Council, 2001 Minnesota All State High School Women’s Choir member, and President of the Southeast Division of Minnesota Association of Student Council.

In June, 2006, Angie, as Miss Austin 2005, was named 3rd runner up to Miss Minnesota 2006!
